A short list of things that are worth the struggle…
- Discomfort. If everything is easy, you need a new challenge.
- Showing up on time, focused and ready.
- Learning how to stay calm when everyone else is panicking. The next best option? Appearing to stay calm when everyone else is panicking.
- Taking time to breathe and recharge. If you’re not at your best, you’re not helping as much as you could be.
- Building communication skills. Being able to understand and be understood is more than half the battle.
- Learning how to diplomatically tell someone something they don’t want to hear, in such a way that they not only understand the facts but sort of agree.
- Taking time to get to know your coworkers on a personal level. Especially if they report to you.
- Empathy.
- Embracing positive change, as scary as it may be.
- Realizing that no matter your business, you have customers. And you need them more than they need you.
- Investing in yourself. There’s always another level. Go find it.
